Now Hiring market manager

The Athens Farmers Market is accepting applications for the role of market manager. We are looking for a manager who shares the passion and commitment that our vendors, customers, and community have for the market. The market manager position is a part time position with the primary responsibility being the day-to-day operation of the farmers market. This includes on-site presence before and during all market hours as well as off-site work during non-market hours. Market hours are Wednesdays from 9am-1pm and Saturdays from 9am-12pm. The manager reports to the market board.

Operations on Market Days

 Arrive prior to market vendors and remain throughout the duration of the market

 Supervise market set up and assign stalls

 Answer questions for vendors and customers

 Enforce rules, resolve disputes

 Collect market-specific currencies from vendors and distribute payments to vendors

Administrative Duties

 Maintain vendor records including applications, licenses, permits

 Book keeping of vendor fees, market-specific currencies and other routine budget items

 Maintain licenses, leases and permits the AFM needs for operation

 Oversee market-specific currencies

 Oversee vendor recruitment and retention

 Track market metrics such as customer counts

 Manage AFM employees including asst. market manager, promotions manager, secretary

 Participate in community meetings/activities on behalf of AFM

 Attend board meetings as requested (average 8 per year)

 Attend meetings of the membership (2 per year)

 Write quarterly market newsletter

 Engage in professional development for market managers as able

Qualifications

Market managers need a variety of interpersonal and technical skills to work effectively with vendors, customers and community partners. The market manager should possess the qualifications below to perform the job effectively:

 Valid OH driver’s license

 Ability to work in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions for the duration of market

 Availability by cell phone contact on market days and for routine e-mail contact at other times

 Experience with book keeping

 Organizational skills

 Record keeping skills

 Diplomacy and dispute resolution skills

 Reliability

 Ability to work independently as well as with vendors, customers, community partners

 Ability to make quick, fair decisions for the good of the market

 Passion for agriculture, grower/producer-only markets and the local economy

Compensation

The market manager/book keeper is paid a salary of $12,000 per year.
